Federal agencies challenged on how to address extreme heat for workers

This summer’s record-high temperatures sent much of the nation well into triple digits, leaving thousands of people searching for relief. Extreme heat is the number-one weather-related cause of death in the U.S. – and the trend is only expected to continue in the coming years. Heat-related illnesses are preventable, but top-down support in federal agencies is essential in putting heat safety policies and heat stress management plans in place.
